Many Iranian-Canadians are not happy with the recent decisions made by TD Bank. The Toronto based bank closed the accounts of many Iranians in order to comply with the sanctions placed by the Canadian Government. TD customers started receiving notices in mails regarding the closure of their bank accounts. These sanctions were put in place in November of 2011 and TD bank is the only bank so far to have taken action.

Other Canadian banks such as Scotia and BMO declined to comment on this issue.

Customers who are facing this are frustrated. One of the affected customer said that they were shocked to receive this letter and are permanent residents of Canada. The Iranian Canadian Congress is set to hold another meeting this weekend to talk more about this issue.

Iranian-Canadians can still send money to Iran as long as it’s below $40,000 Canadian.
